What is Global Hyperloop Competition ?
The Global Hyperloop Competition 2025, hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, introduces the Hyperloop to India, providing a global platform for innovative teams. It aims to showcase and propagate hyperloop concepts worldwide, fostering a transformative spirit among young minds in the field of transportation.
With a 400m tube on the edge we have a vision to conduct a global competition to foster innovation, collaboration, and technological advancement on a worldwide scale.
GHC - Hyperloop Pre-Registarion Deatils
A) Case Study (Research) Competition:
This category involves research and analysis by teams into topics that, are full scale in nature and greatly influence the practicality of a real life hyperloop systems. Researcher needs to keep the focus on Integration of each systems with functional Safety aspect of every area as inbuilt key element.
Possible areas could be:--
- communication inside the tube,
- coordination between various pods in a hyperloop network,
- unit-economics and
- social trade off analysis of the technology amongst many others.
Few areas of study would also be released by GHC team, however teams are free to pick up a topic of their own from above four major areas to complete the research and present at the competition. GHC team could also help teams and provide feedback on choosing the right topic of study.
It is expected to publish paper by a group of two faculties and two students as one group. Considering the four major areas, four papers can be published by different teams from an engineering institute.
Submission for this category would be in two stages and first sgate will be in Dec 2024 & a final presentation round at IIT Madras in February 2025. Exact timeline & other Guidelines would be shared very soon.
B) DesignX Blueprint Competition:
This category expects the teams to prepare designs with readiness of engineering drawings, CAE analysis and complete details with bills of material and overall cost estimation of each system is expected. Under these categories, it’s suggested to teams to develop on-pod systems, on-track systems and any other safety related systems for complete hyperloop systems.
A group of 10 student of diffent desclipline and two faculties can participate as one team. The submission of all these reports are mandatory and incomplete reports will not be acceptable and qualify for evaluation. The Final Report submission date will be 24th Dec 2024 in Digital and hard copy format to be delevered at SAEINDIA Chennai office. Guideline more details will be shared soon.
The submission could either be in one particular domain of the overall hyperloop stack or it could be designs of a complete end to end system as well. Following are few possible domains that teams could choose to work in. (This list is for reference and by no means completely exhaustive)
1. Propulsion
2. Levitation
3. Power Electronics
4. Mechanical & Thermal systems
C.Demonstaion of Hyperloop POD with participation forTesting.
Team of Engineering students - 30 student (min) & 40no's (max) can participate for this competation along with two faculty. The team need to build complete workable POD and demonstarate testing on their build track of max 30 meters length for initial level test. They need to bring all the POD equipment & track to IIT-M Thaiyur campus by end of Feb 2025 or First week of March 25. The competaion dates will be announce seperately.
