Announcement about Functional Safety

The new technology for making cars safer, more efficient, and more connected than they have ever been is being brought to the market at blistering face. With these new advancements, the complexity of functionality and the number of control units are increasing on the vehicles. With the trend of increasing technological complexity, software content and mechatronic implementation, there are increasing risks from systematic failures and random hardware failures. Malfunctioning behavior of electrical or electronic subsystems in vehicles may lead to accidents causing loss of life for the driver, passengers and for other road users. For example, electronic system like the Airbag is mandated by most of the government bodies across the world and the function of Airbag is to safeguard the passengers during crash. If the malfunctioned airbag system deploys without request, it will lead to an accident and will be more hazardous for passengers and so such risks shall be mitigated.

That’s where functional safety standards come in help!

ISO 26262 standard provides guidance to mitigate functional safety risks with the implementation of appropriate requirements and processes. Functional Safety adaptation applies to all activities during the lifecycle of safety-related systems comprised of electrical, electronic and software components.
